In 1886, France gifted the United States a monument that would come to define the ideals of freedom and welcome. The Statue of Liberty stood watch over New York Harbor for nearly a century before a comprehensive restoration was undertaken from 1984 to 1986.

During that restoration, original copper from the interior was carefully removed and preserved. Now, as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, this copper is being included in archival-grade commemorative coins -- each one a genuine fragment of the American story, made tangible and ownable.
